*A NOTE FROM THE SMALL GROUP COORDINATOR: This month I thought I would focus on GABBRS . Since it is the group I belong to, I have first hand knowledge of what we are doing. We are a mix of singles and couples so all are welcome. We usually meet at 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday of the month but are flexible (We had to change for Maundy Thursday). We are a very visual group so we use DVDs often. We have discussed "Oh, God" (the first one with George Burns ); we learned about Islam; we've gone to Cook Park for a concert and discussed some of our favorite hymns and songs. We've taken on Creationism vs Darwinism, Capital Punishment and mobs, such as the one shouting to crucify Jesus. Some of the things in our future are Lutherans & Laughter, Suffering, Anger and Foods of the Bible. We also have time to socialize and see what is happening in our lives. Did I mention we have FUN, too. If you would like to join us, please call me (367-0361) and I can let you know whose home we are meeting in (sometimes our hosts are on vacation and we change locations.)

* "PLAYING FOR PATRICK" FAMILY GAME DAY FUNDRAISER WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! It was a great day of fun and community fellowship as we gathered on Saturday, April 26 th to take part in the "Playing for Patrick" Abraham fundraiser.   Over 120 people/gamers showed up to play games of all types. We had board games, Bingo and WII! - plus an added surprise of "Guitar Hero" which was a great hit.

There was a large selection of Silent Auction items (which included a football signed by Lovie Smith and Ron Turner of the Bears). We also had a large selection of raffle items, including Libertyville High School T-Shirts and Sweatshirts and more.

We had a great crew of Grace people who volunteered their help for this event and many members showed up to play several games. Through our efforts, this event raised over $4400.00 which will go the Patrick Abraham Medical Fund at Libertyville, Bank and Trust. If you would still like to make a donation, please see Jeff McClurg or go to the Libertyville Bank and Trust and make donations there.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THIS EVENT A SUCCESS! Check out the bulletin board for printed updates and check out the Caring Bridge", a web base journal that Patrick has been keeping. www.caringbridge.org/visit/patrick abraham.

*HELD FAMILY VISITS PATRICK: The Held Family visits with the Abraham Family over Spring Break The warmer temperature and sunny skies welcomed us during our visit to Phoenix for spring break.   We also received an awesome welcome from Patrick, TJ, Cousin Alex, Bridget and Ted Abraham with our visit at the Hospital.   It was so good to see Patrick.   We brought some gifts, updates on Grace Happenings, and the GIANT greeting card from the congregation.   He loved it and was very surprised and grateful.   We were blessed with a short but sweet prayer service lead by Leona, one of the hospital chaplains.   Patrick was willing and able to get up from his hospital bed to give me a big hug to bring back home.   We were thankful for our visit and continue to keep Patrick and his family in our prayers.   Kelly Held

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING TERRIFIC TWOS:
Twenty five families from Grace had a really delicious dessert on Easter Sunday. That was the number of cakes that were ordered through the Preschool/Cake Fundraiser. Nancy Bleck and her two little bunnies (Chloe and Paige) took Dairy Queen ice cream cake orders on the Sundays prior to Easter. They also received two $20.00 donations which totaled up to $165 for our preschool program. We would like to thank the Andrea family (Dairy Queen Owners) for participating and everyone that purchased a cake!  Our next fundraiser will be a Market Day on July 16th at Grace, with proceeds to benefit the Terrific Twos Childhood Program.

* ATTENTION KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS: SERVICE WORKSHOP NEEDS YOUR HELP! We would like to assemble some Layette kits for LWR this Fall.  One sweater is needed for each kit.  Tips from the LWR brochure state: 'Sweaters may be knitted or crocheted from leftover yarn, or made from heavy double knits or fleece.  Select a pattern that suits your skill level.  Preferred styles have buttons or ties down the front.'   Also, a gently used, clean sweater can be used.  Please contact Nancy Bruick if you can help with this project.  The sweaters will not be needed until September.

* COOL NEEDS PANTRY VOLUNTEERS: To volunteer please call Diana Fishman at 847-662-1340. For food drive information please call Amber Abbott at 847-662-1230

* THE COOL FOOD ITEM FOR MAY is tuna. Coming up in June is soup. All donations can be placed in the basket located on the Social Ministry Center. Thanks for your support.

Terrific Twos

Terrific Twos had fun in April with spring activities. Among our many activities, we made bird feeders, worked on our surprise Mother's Day presents and made a couple special pages for our year end books. We were thrilled to be outside playing again. In May, we will be talking about the rainbow of colors, summer and bugs. The children love playing with the sandbox in our classroom. Again, we will end our year by meeting at a park to play.

It is hard to believe that May is upon us and Terrific Twos will soon be ending its second successful year. Thanks to our "terrific" kids, their families and everyone at Grace, we had another fantastic year. It is always difficult to say goodbye to the children, but we look forward to running into them around town. I pray that God watches over them and keeps them safe.

Registration is still underway for next year. We still have openings in all our classes.

HELP WANTED

We have teacher and teacher assistant positions open for the 2008-2009 school year for Terrific Two's and Tremendous Three's. Please call the church office at 847/367-7050 if you are interested or have questions. Applications are available in the church office.

Tremendous Threes

The excitement is building for this new preschool program at Grace!  We continue to work on registration- we have a few spots left to fill.  We are beginning to order items for the new classroom and are thrilled about how Fellowship Hall is coming along.  We are wrapping up the hiring process for new staff members.

It is a very busy time getting the program underway.  Beth & I went to an early childhood conference in April and are excited about some new ideas for the Growing with Grace curriculum.

Again, thanks for the support and enthusiasm from the congregation for this new program!

Sarah McAuliffe, Director Tremendous Threes
